If you are serious about understanding feline behavior this book is a must-have. It is a science book. This is not a pop psychology book for cats. You can go and get lots of books with "cat behavior experts" opinions. But this is not opinion. This is just science. What that means is you may not get all your questions answered but you will learn more about cats than you knew was even available. You'll also wonder where people get funding to do all the crazy studies you read about. lol Understanding what cats do when feral or stray, helps us to understand why our pet kitties do some of the weird things they do. If you are looking for a book to help deal with behavior problems may I suggest "Feline Behavior - A Guide for Veterinarians" as a great companion to this one. It's not that technical that a lay person cant muddle through. If you are wanting to enter the career of animal behavior, this book is a must! And Dennis Turner is my new Hero. :D

If you are looking to read a book about how and why your pet cat does stuff this is NOT the book for you. This is an excellent compilation of scientific research and studies about cat behavior and the lives they live when feral. It does discuss house cats as pets, but it is by far not the main focus. It is a well written and well documented book, that talks about old studies and newer (up to the addition I read) studies done on cats. My only complaint is sometimes the data was a bit dry. I do feel that after reading this you will have deeper understanding of cats, their behaviors, and why we love them.

Amazing book!! I loved it! This book goes into so much detail about everything. This can be a challenging book for some readers though. The book includes a lot of statistics and numbers.

The title of this book is misleading. This book isn't about the pet cat you keep at home. It's about wild domestic cats and how they relate to each other in the field. There are no recent photographs, only drawing from the early 1900's that all look the same. The citations used in the book to back up the author's claims are also outdated- there surely must have been some recent veterinary studies on domestic cats so why are we relying on quotes from the 1930's??? Don't waste your money.

If you want a book that investigates the biological behavior of feral and tame domesticated cats I recommend this book. There are a lot cat books out there on the market, I have read nearly all of them (99% of them are repetitive drivel). There rest are mnostly diluted dumbed down versions of this one. Previous reviewers obviously did not actually read or understand this book or how research and it's processes work.
